btravelers / steemit

This beach earns its name from the gorgeous green olivine crystals that together with pieces of black volcanic rock and white coral and shells make up the sand.

How to get there: The remote location of this beach is part of its charm. It can't be accessed by car, so you have to drive to the southernmost tip of the US (take road ‘South Point’ between mile markers 69 and 70 on Hwy 11), then it's a 2.5 mile hike from the parking lot. ;)

Best time of year: The winter months between November - March.

DOMINICAN REPUBLIC: Cayo Levantado Island, Samana Bay

Turisimo de Republica Dominicana

The island is also known as "Bacardi Island" from a Bacardi rum advertising campaign in the 80s... and it holds up to every expectation a rum commercial creates. Crystal clear calm turquoise waters and white sand greets you with a nearby strip of restaurants serving freshly caught fish and cool drinks.

How to get there: The island is only accessible by boat, with a ferry ($7 roundtrip) leaving daily from the Port of Samana in Samana Bay.

Best time of year: After the peak season rush from March - May.

INDIA: Auroville Beach, Pondicherry

The gentle slope of the beach, warm water, and small waves make this a perfect beach for swimming. It's also a great place to collect seashells as a wide variety find their way to Auroville's shores daily.

How to get there: Walking distance from the Auroville bus stop on ECR (East Coast Road).

Best time of year: During the winter months between October - February.

PHILIPPINES: El Nido, Palawan

El Nido Resorts

Clear water, dramatic rock formations, and lush tropical paradise... El Nido is a popular place for boat tours, kayaking or scuba diving! There are great dives along walls and drop-offs, the most popular dive site being South Miniloc, otherwise nearby Coron offers world-renowned wreck dives.

How to get there: Fly to Puerto Princessa in Palawan then take a van, bus or car up to El Nido (~5 hr drive).

Best time of year: Dry season from October - June.
